In 2018 he was awarded the Eurographics Gold Medal of the European Association for Computer Graphics for his services to the field of computer graphics. And his services are manifold. At the end of 2006 he became head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research with branches in Darmstadt, Rostock and Singapore and divides his time between Germany, Graz and a comfortable seat on the plane.
