The current further education portfolio of Graz University of Technology Life Long Learning (LLL), which has established itself in Austria and beyond in recent years and is constantly developing further education formats with current topics for all those seeking further education at university level, offers around 40 practice-related courses. The courses, seminars, university courses and master’s programmes enable a practical transfer of application-oriented know-how.

2020 Life Long Learning looks back on 15 years of experience in university continuing education. True to the motto "We care about continuing education", LLL looks towards the next 15 years with an innovative continuing education programme. New features include the "Leadership in Digital Transformation" programme and courses on deep learning (AI Deep Dive), Electrical Power System Protection, Moisture and Waterproofing Monitoring, and Building Information Modeling.

From AI Deep Dive to Building Information Modeling and Digital Transformation

New in the 2021 annual programme are four courses and a master's programme, part-time of course.

  • AI Deep Dive: In the two-day workshop, interested parties acquire the basics of deep learning and learn how to use this method of machine learning to solve numerous problems, such as churn prediction or image classification.
  • Electrical Power System Protection: The content of the one-day online university course is about clarifying the necessary requirements for a protection system, the error calculation for single-pole and multi-pole error cases and the presentation of the various current protection concepts.
  • Building Information Modeling: Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a method for creating virtual building models in which all information during the life cycle of a building is digitally modelled, combined and captured. In the seminar series with selectable specialized modules, the basics and special requirements for structural engineering, building services engineering, structural design and surveying are taught.
  • Moisture and Waterproofing Monitoring: The aim of this university course is to visualize the moisture status of buildings by means of building assistance systems without interfering with the building component.  Participants learn to recognize problems and to use simulation tools to plan practical solutions and evaluate measurement data. The course will be offered for the second time in 2021. Current dates can be found on the course website.
  • Continual educational programme "Leadership in Digital Transformation": The part-time master's programme is characterized by the selective combination of business administration with computer science and takes a comprehensive look at the ongoing digital transformation. Areas of focus such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data and digital business models are adapted to individual training needs by means of elective subjects in fields of application such as smart factory, mobility and transportation systems, autonomous systems. There is a choice of two degree options: MBA or MEng Leadership in Digital Transformation. The course starts in the winter semester 2021/2022. Growth potential of digitalization

In the near future, the main focus will be on exploiting the development and growth potential of rapidly advancing digitalization. "Rethinking further education" is accordingly the motto of Life Long Learning for the coming years. "New business models, digital technologies and new forms of teamwork as well as completely new job profiles are emerging. Those who want to leave a mark here have an enormous need for learning in terms of digital technical and management skills," explains Ernst Kreuzer, head of TU Graz "Life Long Learning".

Continuing education for companies

TU Graz Life Long Learning develops not only practice-oriented courses for individuals but also tailor-made further education formats for companies. NXP Austria, for example, has already become acquainted with Life Long Learning in several successful training projects at the interface between university and business. "It is particularly gratifying that LLL is continually raising the bar itself, both in terms of organizational management and methodological approaches. Modern learning at its best," says Michael Jerne, Director External Relations at NXP Semiconductors.
